On July 27th 2026 I finished the Tahoe Rim Trail. Boy was it an epic finish hiking through Desolation Wilderness and traversing over some amazing peaks (Dicks Pass). It took me in total 12 days to complete the TRT, and I got to stay the night in South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, and Tahoe City. I delayed beginning my hike due to a lightening storm at the very beginning of my trip and I’m so glad I did! I saw an endless amount of beauty both in the people, plants, animals, and the locals all alongside the trail. I met two fabulous hikers Freight Train and Pickles who brought trail magic up to Barker Pass Trailhead. I think what brings people together in the hiking community is the co-inspiration that happens amongst each other. Being able to talk and give voice to the very real experiences we all have out in the wilderness. I also want to give a shout out to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for doing such an amazing job at creating this beautiful trail. And much thanks to all the volunteers that worked on it. I even met one of the volunteers who now lives in Sedona, but she said for the first time she now gets to hike the trail this year. What an awesome journey. After staying the night in Incline Village, I hiked Mt Rose Wilderness with my friends for about 4 miles before we parted ways. We saw a waterfall, wildflowers, and plenty of views. I knew another rainstorm was coming in late afternoon, so I needed to get to my next campsite early. I hiked out to Grey Lake, where I camped right before the rainstorm hit around 3 PM. The next morning I woke up early, around 4:30 AM, so I could get to Kings Beach in time for an appointment. I only had a total of 10 miles to hike out, and spent time enjoying the beach and Lake Tahoe before heading back to the trail. My last northern section was 20 miles to Tahoe City, where I split it between two days due to the long water carry. I took a siesta at Watson Lake, where I had a very friendly chipmunk try to get into my tent and hiked another 4 miles to camp. Then my last 10 miles in the morning were an easy downhill hike into the city, where I relaxed in the town, enjoyed some pizza, and took a night to clean up before my final section where I’ll be finishing the Tahoe Rim Trail. The east side of the Tahoe Rim Trail graced me with countless views of Lake Tahoe, tons of unusual wildflowers, butterflies, bumblebees, and wildlife 🐻. I’m constantly amazed that I get to enjoy this beautiful place and feel so lucky that I have a body that can traverse some of these magnificent mountains. I completed a total of 36 miles in 2.5 days. My first day taking 2.5 miles out of Kingsbury Grade and having a surprise bear encounter 🐻 The second day I completed a trek out to Spooner Lake for lunch and gift shop ice cream and sodas 🥤 then camped on the ridge near Marlette Lake. My last day was spent seeing as many views as I could and the slow ascent up to Mt. My hike didn’t start immediately after my short section hike in Etna and Seiad Valley. I met up with my friend in Sacramento and we planned to hike out together on the Tahoe Rim Trail, but our first night there were some summer storms. Thankfully, we hiked back the next day and I stayed in town until the weather was clear. I hiked in total about 44 miles for this section in three days, starting off slow and ending my final day with a 26-mile day. Tahoe does not disappoint with its striking views at every peak I climb. 🏔️ Looking forward to hiking the eastern section to see what it will bring. 🥾 #thetrek #trt #tahoe #backpacking #thruhike

I finally completed this section I missed from fires back in 2023. When Neapolitan and I rehiked this area in 2025, it was covered in snow, so we hitched around and hiked to Burney SOBO. Being able to see this area with plenty of water, wildlife, and wildflowers was exhilarating. The sun was strong, as it always is in northern California. So strong, I got dehydrated and unfortunately got another urinary tract infection. However, I was still able to complete my miles and arrive on time to get my rides back to Sacramento to start my hike in Tahoe. #thetrek #etna #seiadvalley #pct #backpacking

I just finished 20 miles in Haleakalā National Park - Maui. I love that there are several types of terrain in such a short trip. If you start on Sliding Sands Trail, you begin on dark volcanic sand just past the first cabin, Kapalaoa. Our first night was at Paliku Campground, which is surrounded by volcanic rock in a tropical valley. Then, hiking back to the main road, you go back through multicolored sands and see deep holes and craters. The final leg of it is up over a mountain ridge outside of Holua Campground. Highly recommend it the next time you're on the islands. And you get to see the rarest goose in the world, nēnē. Read about it on my blog on The Trek!
